TORIES AGREE LAND PURCHASE FOR NEW HIGH SCHOOL IN GREENFORD

Ealing’s Conservative Cabinet last night agreed to the purchase of land in Oldfield Lane North, Greenford, in order to provide the site of a new High School to serve the north of the Borough. The land which is being purchased from Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) has excellent transport links, and fulfils the Conservative Manifesto pledge to identify a site for a new High School. Building work is expected to being in 2013 and be complete by 2015.

Conservative Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Ian Gibb said:

“For years the north of the Borough has been underserved in terms of high schools, forcing many pupils to travel long distances to find a place. That is why we pledged at the last Council elections to identify a site, and after much work I am pleased to say we have agreed purchase of an ideal piece of land.

Leader of the Council and local ward councillor, Cllr Jason Stacey said:

“The problem of high school provision in the north of the Borough has been with us for many years, but unfortunately the previous Labour administration kept ducking the issue. This land purchase is the first step in giving parents and pupils a new choice with a state of the art modern high school in Greenford.”
