TORIES DELIVER AN EXTRA £2M FOR ADULT SOCIAL CARE - LEAVING LABOUR LOST FOR WORDS

Ealing's Conservative Council this week announced plans to pump an extra two million into adult social care to help the service cope with additional demands on it caused by the severe weather and the tough economic climate.

The announcement which was at Tuesday’s  Full Council meeting by Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Cllr Mark Reen, left Labour literally speechless, unable to give offer any response to the extra help for the most vulnerable in our community. The extra money will go towards ensuring the Council can meet the extra demand for social care that comes from:

Cllr Reen explained that the decision to find more money for adult social care was a choice that the Conservatives were only able to make as a result of sound financial management and a strong overall financial position for the council.

He said:

"There are times when even the best run social services departments such as ours are faced with choices - and the choice currently is straightforward – between maintaining resources at planned levels come what may, denying our residents the care and support they need; or recognising that the challenges the service is facing requires the council to act in the prevailing exceptional circumstances to protect the care and support that we provide for our residents.

"We have decided to protect the vulnerable and are able to do so because we have the financial strength after having sorted out the financial mess we inherited from Labour. What is really extraordinary is that the Labour Opposition had nothing whatsoever to say on this extra lifeline to those in need in our Borough. Labour claims to care about adult services, but when they were in power all they delivered was chaos and cuts.''

"It is a Conservative administration that has lifted social services to the top ranks in the country after having been rated by the Audit Commission as the worst in London under Labour. And it is a Conservative administration that is continuing to ensure the services are properly funded during these tough economic times."
