Pound Snubs Post Offices

Stephen Pound backs a gong for Brucie but not the Post Offices

Cllr Ian Gibb, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate in Ealing North condemned Stephen Pound and his fellow Ealing Labour MPs for failing to support our local post offices in a parliamentary debate organised by the Conservatives.  In a further snub Steve Pound took time to register his support for an early day motion (EDM) calling on the Government to award a knighthood to Bruce Forsyth, but failed to support one calling for action to save our post offices.

Cllr Gibb explained, “The Government is pushing ahead with plans to close 2500 post offices, yet on a local level many Labour MPs claim to be opposed to the closures.  The Conservatives held a debate in Parliament last week to give all MPs an opportunity to demonstrate their opposition and vote for a suspension of the closures.  This would allow time for other options to be explored instead of the devastating closure programme but Stephen Pound and his fellow Ealing Labour MPs voted with the Government, despite many of their colleagues putting their constituencies before their party.”

“I popped into the Greenford Green post office last week, which is threatened with closure, and there was a long queue at the counter.  This is clearly a popular local post office.  I’m sure the residents of Ealing North would rather see their MP using his time to fight for their local post office rather than campaigning for a gong for Bruce Forsyth.”
